4 reasons I miss Thailand

Hello my Thai friends and every Thai lover :)

Since I came back to my country, Japan, I just realize how much I DO love Thailand and my Thai friends. I am thinking why and came up to the 4reasons.

Plz read it if you are a Thai or a Thai lover :)

1.Thais know “both”

What I meant “Both” here is Thai people know both expensive and affordable place.

Many of my Thai friends in Thammasat are from a wealthy family in Thai society.

(They studied in the US for a year in high school, they have been to Europe, Japan, South Korea, they have a car….)

So sometimes I went to a resutaurant with Thai friends where I had to spent at least 150baht.

But usually, when I eat around my dorm, people only spent 35baht to get a meal.

I would say the same about shopping.

While Thai people have Louis Vuitton or Gucci bags, I saw them doing shopping at some markets to get some cheaper clothes.

Thai people sometimes try luxury stuffs, but that doesn’t mean they don’t go for reasonable choices. ( Thank you for choosing restaurants to my budget 555)

Well, that is why I am feeling familiar and close with Thai friends.

2.Weather

I am a summer lover, and a sunny day lover.

It is sunny through the whole year in Bangkok.

They have the dried season and the rainy season(from June to October).

It does rain but for only three hours so I assume I could say it is sunny everyday, and the average tempureture in BKK is 30 degree.

What do I like about it?

It is about 1) easy-going laundry and 2) less conscious for fashion.

It is really hot and takes minimum 2 hours to max. 6 hours to get clothes dried.

You don’t even have to hang them in your room which often causes dampy smell to your clothes.

About fashion, just wear flip-flappers and summer cothes.

When in Japan, I feel stressed to think about what to wear:

“It is sunny now but will be raining… should I wear rain-shoes? But it may not be rainy...”

“It is really hot in daytime but is freaking cold in the evening….should I wear thin coat or thick one? ”

I didn’t have to take too much  consideration on my laundry and fashion.

BKK was less stressful place to live in :)

3.Really straight and honest

I think Thai people are really honest of course in a good way.

At a moll on weekends, it was quite obvious which restaurants were popular or unpopular.

They queue up for cheap and good quality restaurants, but never go to bad quality ones.

In a class, when a proffesor said “Asking questions will contribute to your overall grade,”

Thai students suddenly started to raise their hand (even though some of them were dozing before.)

It recalled my memory from the middle school.

They express themselves directly straightforwardly, but it has never been rude.

That’s why I feel comfy being with them.

4. Another community in daily life

Needles to say, I joined Thai communities at university.

But here, I think I have been creating another community through my daily life.

For example, I got close/ became friends with staffs at seven-eleven nearby where I went almost everyday.

Once after they asked my name, everytime I went to 7-11, they talked to me “how are you? (Kin Khao yang?/ bpai nai maa?/ Tam arai?)” in Thai.

Another example will be from those street vendors.

Everytime I went to vendors around my dorm, they welcomed me really warmly.

(And of course those foodies were the best. I believe they are truly authentic Thai foods. )

Those a bit weak but surely existing communities definitely make me feel I wanna go back to Thailand.

How was my first English article?

I just expressed my love toward Thais 555

I hope you get what I meant here.

Khob khun kha :)
